LOCATION NEAR THE BEACH

The main ‘Caretta Caretta’ turtle (loggerhead sea turtle) nesting beach located at the far south of the Vassilikos peninsula inside the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. This is a long and wide sandy beach and gently shelving shore with sun beds and umbrellas provided. Some areas of the beach are off limits due to turtles nesting and the beach is closed at sunset for the same reason.

This beautiful place with the distinct smell of sulphur is a must see in Zakynthos island. The waters here contain a large proportion of sulphur, coming from neighbouring caves and has healing properties.

The official resident of the island ‘Marathonisi’ is the loggerhead turtle 'Caretta Caretta', and the island along with the Bay of Laganas is protected by the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. The island is actually the shape of a turtle and you can reach it either by renting a small boat from Keri or Laganas or by going on an organized trip.
